Once you adopt your ducks, come watch them race down the Pembina River on Saturday, June 27th, 2020. This FREE family-friendly fun event starts at 11 am when you can enjoy BBQ Canteen lunch serving hamburgers, hot dogs and more. There are OLD FASHIONED picnic games and other outdoor activities for kids of all ages. At 1 pm, La Riviere Volunteer Fire Department will rumble into La Riviere Centennial Campground, sirens a blast, and encouraging kids of all ages to join in on water games and other challenges they’ve provided. At 3 pm, all kids are encouraged to enter the Bike Decorating Contest and Parade. Then at 5 pm, cheer your rubber duck on to victory as it braves the river waters with hundreds of other lucky duckies. At the start of the race, the sponsored ducks are all launched into the river. It is usual to start at the bend on the north end of the campground.
They then float downstream ......... Facing all sorts of perils on the way........ Until ...with some final jostling for position..... the finish line is in sight.
The first three to cross the finish line will win fabulous prizes, in cash. You don't have to be present to win, but you won't want to miss this quack-tastic event!
The Rec Association is able to offer refreshments at the Lazy Lagoon Lounge- cheering on your duck is thirsty work and they know people will want a cup of tea afterwards too! The regular stock will be on hand, as well as a Signature Drink and the bicycle blender, all for your enjoyment and right next to the BBQ Canteen with all its tasty goodies to offer. La Riviere & Community Recreation Association invite you to join us as we celebrate the spring migration of hawks and eagles through Manitoba's scenic Pembina Valley. This festival will take a new direction in 2020 and be extended to two days. The first day will focus on our youth and will bring classrooms of children to learn and explore the importance of wildlife stewardship and habitat protection through interactive STEM programs and activities, including nature walks, virtual reality technology and live wildlife raptor ambassadors!
Friday evening will have an "Owl Prowl" public activity where we invite participants to explore the valley in the evening with an owl expert guide to see (and hear!) different owl species who call the valley home or who are transitioning through the region on their migration path.
Saturday is a big community event inviting members from all of Manitoba to explore and celebrate the Pembina Valley as one of North America's top site for spring migrating Red-Tail Hawks and other raptors. The Pembina Valley is Manitoba's premier spring raptor migration corridor. The day's activities will include interactive booths from many wildlife and conservation organizations, STEM activities for children and families to learn about wildlife and habitat protection and expert speaker talks about raptors, endangered species, the importance of our ecosystems and much more. Explore the world of birds with top-notch professionals and enthusiastic guides. See live birds of prey eye-to-eye, capture fantastic close-up photos of raptors and gain insights into the challenges these birds face in the wild.
Whether you are a seasoned birder or just curious about birds or your environment, bring your binoculars, a camera and dress for the weather. With guides to lead the way, explore the community's natural beauty and experience the Pembina Valley as Manitoba's premier spring raptor migration corridor. Learn how to identify and count the migrating birds. Or join others indoors in Blair Morrison Hall and La Riviere & Community Arena for the jaw-dropping natural spectacle of live raptors. There are also interactive displays, presentations, rainbow auction and 50/50 draw, photo contest, owl art contest, door prizes, canteen, and much, much more.
